An unforeseen failure at a Johannesburg-based data centre
used by the company which oversees the hosting of our sites, resulted in a 17-hour
outage of all 24.com sites including News24 on Sunday.
As a result of the majority of essential equipment
going offline, ops staff worked around the clock to bring the data centre back
online and began a full database restore of 24.com’s content to all servers.
Once the databases were restored, and our Content
Management System and website were brought back online, editorial teams worked
through the night to restore missing content to our news archives.
As of midnight on Sunday, all website and services were
back up and running and editors could publish as per usual.
We are putting systems in place to ensure this problem
does not reoccur.

and to thank the News24 community for their patience and support.
