Johannesburg - South Africa's Emerging Players lost their second successive match in the Emerging Players cricket tournament and could be in danger of not being able to defend their title as they slumped to a 10-run loss to New Zealand in a tough encounter in Brisbane.
SA's bowling attack led by the National Academy pair of CJ de Villiers (2/54) and Wayne Parnell's (2/63) tried in vain to dispose of the islanders who stood firm with Martin Guptill (65) and Greg Hay (43) providing the platform, as New Zealand posted 276/8 in their 50 overs.
In reply, South Africa were boosted by good contributions from Imraan Khan (98) and Dean Elgar (41) who combined for a 70-run second wicket partnership. Henry Davids also chipped in with 31, but it was not enough as South Africa reached 266/9, ten runs shy of New Zealand's total.
Brandon Hiini (3/51) and Robbie Schaw (3/40) claimed three wickets each to ensure the Kiwis' victory.
In a high scoring match, Australia made 371/5 to emerge triumphant by 19 runs against India. Centuries by Theo Doropolous (107) and Moises Henriques (124) guided the Australians to their second consecutive win.
David Warner made 80 as no Indian bowler appeared to dominate.
India's chase was led by an experienced Suresh Raina (115) and Badrinath Subramani with 95, but they could only reach 352 all out in 46.2 overs.
Doropoulos capped his hundred by taking 3/68 and opener Grant Sullivan snared 3/62.
The fifth round matches will be played on Tuesday, with South Africa facing India and Australia doing the battle with New Zealand.
