Johannesburg - England captain Michael Vaughan won his first toss of the series on Thursday at the Wanderers and elected to bat on the first day of the fourth Test against South Africa.
The five-match series is tied at 1-1 after England won the first Test by seven wickets, the second was drawn, and South Africa won the third by 196 runs.
Both teams made changes after the third Test: England brought in swing bowler James Anderson for Simon Jones after the Glamorgan fast bowler was under-bowled by Vaughan in the first three Tests.
For South Africa, Charl Langeveldt did not pass a late fitness test and fast bowler Dale Steyn came back into the starting lineup in his place.
The home team also recalled veteran wicketkeeper Mark Boucher, while AB de Villiers, who kept wicket in the last two Tests, was retained as a specialist batsman in place of Hashim Amla, who did not meet with much success in his two outings against England.
