Johannesburg - Robbie Hunter, the first South African to complete the Tour de France, will start his new season with the Dutch Rabobank team at a disadvantage, after an altercation with a motorist, reports The Star.
Hunter, 25, was involved in a roadside punch-up on Monday.
He had been out for an early-morning training ride with two friends when a motorist tried to force them off the road.
After an argument, the motorist allegedly attacked Hunter with a gearlock.
Hunter punched him, breaking a bone in his right hand. He underwent surgery on New Year's Eve to have a screw inserted and is expected to be off training for more than a week.
