Tour makes online history

Cape Town - Entries into the 32nd Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour have passed the 10 000 mark, within 24 hours of entries opening.
The same number of entries were received in 48 hours last year, making this year the fastest turnaround in Cycle Tour's online entry history.
This has been attributed to a combination of ongoing upgrades to the online entry system that was introduced last year. Entries also opened on a Monday this year (as opposed to Sunday last year) and cyclists have better access to the internet from work.
"Interest in our new novice programme has also been very encouraging", says David Bellairs of the organising team. "We have just launched this programme to encourage and prepare complete novices for the 2009 Tour and feedback in the first 24 hours has been incredible.
"Logistically we have to limit numbers on this programme and we urge novice cyclists who still want to enter to do so as soon as possible as this pilot project will be limited to 100 complete beginners from the Western Cape."
Cylists who still want to enter are urged to do so as soon as possible, organisers expect the 35&Nbsp;000 entry limit to be reached in a week to ten days.
