Van Zyl wins in Italy

Johannesburg - LJ van Zyl, Commonwealth and African 400m hurdles champion, recorded his third fastest time of the year in Rieti, Italy on Sunday night when he won his event at a major international meeting in a fast 48.52 sec.
It was also his best time since clocking 48.42 sec when finishing fifth in the Olympic final.
The 23-year-old SA runner impressed by turning the tables on Isa Philips of Jamaica who finished ahead of Van Zyl in Brussels on Friday night.
Philips was second in 48.85 sec with Marek Plawgo of Poland third in 49.55 sec.
Another South African, Alwyn Myburgh, crossed the line in 52.50 when finishing sixth.
His good time boosted Van Zyl's chances in the IAAF Final meeting in Stuttgart over the weekend. It was also his fourth victory outside South Africa this year.
He clocked his fastest time (48.22 sec) in Athens and also won races in Addis Abeba, Doha and Madrid.
