Sheppard makes first start in Russia

Bafana Bafana midfielder Dillon Sheppard has played a starring role in his first League start for Dynamo Moscow in Russia.

The former Ajax Cape Town man has had to watch from the bench as his side struggled in the opening part of the season, but with former Orlando Pirates coach Viktor Bondarenko instilled as the new Dynamo coach last week, Sheppard finally got his chance to shine.

Dynamo beat highly-rated Alanya 1-0 with Sheppard handed a central midfield role rather than his usual place wide out on the left.

And he repaid the coach for his faith in him but putting in a solid performance that laid the platform for just Dynamo's fourth win of the season.

"I think this is the best game I have played in two years," Sheppard told Kickoff.com. "My passing and movement was good and I played some neat one-twos with my team-mates.

"The crowd gave me a great reception when I left the field and I really enjoyed my role in the centre of the midfield, rather than on the left wing."

The win moves Dynamo up to ninth in the 16 team league, with 19 points from 17 matches.
