Pretoria - "If you ask me, South African humour needs a face lift."
These were the words of the singer and actor Steve Hofmeyr, following the decision by the Blue Bulls Company not to allow his latest music video, a skit on the Springboks' notorious "Kamp Staaldraad", to be shown at Loftus.
The video, called Maak die Bulle almal Bokke (Make the Bulls all Springboks) shows quite a lot of male nudity - but only from behind. There are big bums, small bums and average bums.
"No, I'm not cross with the Blue Bulls about their decision not to show my video on Saturday.
"I understand the sensitivity surrounding Staaldraad. But, hey boys, where's the sense of humour?
"We asked a group of Pretoria students to strip and roll around in a mud bath after we came them a couple of beers and a lot of money.
"And now I hear there's unhappiness with the words 'Kamp Draadtrek', which shows fleetingly on one guy's bum. Kamp Staaldraad, Kamp Kaaldraad, Kamp Draadtrek, Kamp Staalwol... who cares?"
Hofmeyr's tour called Nag van die legendes (Night of the legends) has started at Carnival City.
"Al Debbo is 82-years-old and we have a stretcher in the wings for just in case. He can only perform his songs Hasie and Sonbrilletjies, but he says he's touring with us... even if he dies on tour. Isn't it wonderful?"
