Josephs tipped to oust Khune

Johannesburg - Whilst Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana is facing a dilemma in choosing his best central defence for South Africa's World Cup Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, the Brazilian mentor could face another major problem in choosing between Moeneeb Josephs and Itumeleng Khune for the number one jersey this weekend.
Santana has recalled defenders Matthew Booth and Mbulelo Mabizela back into the squad following the suspension of Aaron Mokoena, and with Bevan Fransman and Nasief Morris also available for selection on Saturday, it remains to be seen who the Bafana technical team will pick for central defence against the Super Eagles.
Santana's last line of defence worry is that Itumeleng Khune, who has been Bafana's number 1 keeper, has been warming the bench at his team, Kaizer Chiefs, following a dismal performance during the international friendly between South Africa and Australia last month.
After his good performance during the Absa Premiership match against Golden Arrows in Durban on Saturday, soccer pundits believe that Orlando Pirates' minder, Josephs deserves the nod in the starting lineup ahead of Khune against Nigeria.
Recent performances
Josephs was a late replacement for Armenia Bielefeld shot stopper Rowen Fernandez, who was withdrawn from the squad due to injury.
Soccer commentator and SuperSport United goalkeeper coach, William "Cool Cat" Shongwe says even though he still believes that Khune is a great goalkeeper, based on recent performances, Josephs deserves the number 1 jersey on Saturday.
"Even though he did not have one of his best games against Australia, I still rate Khune as best goalkeeper in the country and one for the future.
"But he has not been given the chance to bounce back after that game in England and going to the match against Nigeria on Saturday, I would go for Josephs following his performance against Golden Arrows on Saturday."
