Cape Town - The city of Cape Town has appointed a team to undertake the concept design and initial feasibility study for the proposed 2010 World Cup stadium in Green Point, mayor Helen Zille announced on Thursday.
She said the joint venture of Perlemoen and Team 2010, who would be backed by international experts, had emerged as winners from 13 bidders.
The initial phase of the design would be funded by R10m from the Western Cape provincial government, and an initial business plan would be submitted to national treasury at the end of June.
On completion of the feasibility study and the initial business plan, a decision would be made as to whether the project would in fact go ahead at Green Point.
"During the feasibility study and preparation of the business plan for Green Point, a parallel process will consider the suitability and feasibility of other possible sites.
"This will ensure that if Green Point proves to be untenable for legal, constitutional or financial reasons, we will have alternatives available," she said.
