Tiger PGA 'favourite'

2006-08-20 08:09
Chicago - Two-time champion Tiger Woods will have history on his side heading into the final round of the $6.8m PGA Championship at the Medinah Country Club.

The reigning British Open champ Woods is seeking his third victory and second major championship in his last four tournaments.

"I was able to post a good one today," said the Woods who fired a seven-under 65 Saturday and was the co-leader after 54 holes with England's Luke Donald. "As of right now I am tied for the lead, so at least I am going to be in the final group."

The leaderboard may be jammed with 15 players within seven strokes of the co-leaders, but it wouldn't be wise to bet against Woods.

That's because he is 11-for-11 in majors when leading or tied for the lead going into the final round.

They say Woods often wins more on courses he likes, and Medinah certainly has been kind to him, especially on Saturday where he posted eight birdies and missed just one green.

Woods also hit 11 of 14 fairways in the third round after hitting just 15 of 28 in the first two rounds.

"It turned out to be a good day. I thought I hit the ball pretty good," he said.

Wood played Saturday with a hat that had the words written "Love, from Mom" in Thai on it. Woods' mother is from Thailand and he speaks some of the language.

"It is her way of saying she is always there with me," said Woods, who lost his father to cancer in May. "Even though she can't be there physically, she's always there in each and every round I play.

"It is comforting to look at that and to see her and know she is there in spirit."
