Cairo - Unknown assailants shot dead two Coptic Christians in a village of southern Egypt on Thursday, prompting an angry protest by more than 1 500 of their co-religionists, police said.

A police official said Muwad Hassaad and his son Hassaad Muwad Hassaad were gunned down as they were seated in front of their shop in the village of Bahgura, 600km from Cairo. The assailants fled the scene.

More than 1 500 Copts later gathered in the nearby town of Nagaa Hammadi to protest the killings.

In October 2011, 25 people, most of them Copts, died in clashes with soldiers outside the state television building in Cairo where they were protesting against an attack on a church.

Copts, who make up between six and 10% of Egypt's 82-million population, complain of systematic discrimination. Concern has grown over the triumph of Islamists in the first polls since Hosni Mubarak's fall last year.

Then you failed the comprehension test. This is not about people killing each other. This is about violence against a minority group in Egypt.

      Godfrey - 2012-01-27 15:56

Hello Martino I comprehend all right. You god believers killing each other, Whether its Nigeria, Northern Island, Egypt, Iraq, the Crusades, Indonesia, you don't need much of an excuse to kill these that hold differing beliefs. After all, that's what your god tells you to do. Right?

@Trevor An invisible imaginary character who perform miracles, answers millions of prayers every minute, forgot to protect Hansie from the devil, created everything but his own money, walks on water, raises people from the dead, makes snakes and donkeys talk, part time zombie, you name it he does it.

You sound pretty venomous for someone who shouldn't really care less about what other people believe. I mean shouldn't you really be fairly indifferent. By the sounds of things you're a pretty irreligious evangelist?
