Blantyre – A 4-year-old girl died after she was reportedly brutally raped by a 21-year-old man in Malawi's Chiradzulu district.

According to Malawi24, the girl was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital on May 21.

The incident occurred after the girl was sent to to collect a bucket from a nearby borehole by her grandmother.

She was in the company of her 7-year-old sister.

On their way back home, the two girls met the suspect Gift Eraton, who dragged the younger girl into a secluded garden and raped her, leaving her unconscious.

Her sister managed to escape and called on the village elders who found her unconscious.

The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital but she was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the Maravi Post reported that an unidentified young girl was raped and subsequently killed by unknown assailants in the southern African country’s northern city of Mzuzu last year.

Witnesses were quoted as saying that the girl was strangled to death before the suspects fled.
