5 tourists killed in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa - Ethiopian state TV says 5 foreign tourists have been killed by unknown armed rebels in Ethiopia's restive Afar region in the country's north.

The Ethiopian Television, or ETV, cited the Ethiopian Ministry of Defence reporting that a group of 8 unidentified foreign nationals were attacked near the Eritrean border.

ETV said Tuesday that 2 injured tourists were taken to a health clinic by defence forces and are in critical condition. Another tourist survived the attack unharmed.

ETV suggested the attackers were rebels with ties to Ethiopia's archrival Eritrea, which hosts the exiled Oromo Liberation Front, a rebel group listed as a terrorist organisation by the Ethiopian government.

Ethiopia's foreign ministry confirmed the attack but had no details about it or the victims' nationalities.

Because it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and the rest of the 80 million people there are quite nice. it is adviced to not travel in the are between Eritrea and Ethiopia due to the conflict there. the rest of the country is ok (apart from the region bordering to Somalia) if you want to take a look

I go there quite often for business. One reason to go there is because the excellent local beers sell for R4 to R6 in a restaurant, and you can have a good meal for R30.

2012, and the blood shed continues. Is this the Legacy we want to leave behind for our children and those still to be born? So many Parents and families are in pain and sorrow today. I believe that this is not a time to joke about these things. There is nothing we can do about it, it is in the Hands Of the Mighty Power. "This is Reality"

If you like living "close to the edge", rather go shark or buffalo hunting, cliff jumping with an umbrella or skate-boarding through Lion Park. Don't go to Africa, it's much more dangerous!

Ethiopia is a good country this is one of those unforeseen events. I've been there a couple of times and I do agree with proafrikaans. The people are friendly and welcoming.
