Kano - Witnesses in Nigeria say at least seven people have been killed in a series of coordinated attacks across the northern city of Kano.

Local immigration service spokesperson Mohammed Kanoma said at least three officials were killed, as well as an unknown number of civilians in an attack at a passport office.

Witness Garba Danazumi Lere says he saw the bodies of three police officers and a local journalist after a bomb blast at a regional police headquarters.

Police and emergency management officials have yet to offer an overall injury and death figure from Friday's attacks.

The Islamist sect Boko Haram has claimed responsibility.
