Cape town – The Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia has urged government to audit all Muslim organisations operating in that country, a report says.

According to Lusaka Times the council’s leader Suzgo Zimba said some Muslim organisations received money from donors but failed to use it on intended beneficiaries.

He said some used the money to benefit their own businesses.

The report comes at a time when many on the African continent are worried about continued attacks by Islamist militants whose source of funding remains unclear.

Kenya is the latest African nation to have been attacked by Islamist insurgents al-Shabaab. The country's Westgate mall massacre last month saw the death of more than 67 people.

There are also constant reports of attacks by the group Boko Haram in Nigeria.
