Bauchi - A purported spokesperson for Islamist sect Boko Haram claimed responsibility for a Christmas Day explosion near a church outside the Nigerian capital that killed at least 27 people.

"We are responsible for all the attacks in the past few days, including today's bombing of the church in Madalla," Abul Qaqa told AFP by phone.

"We will continue to launch such attacks throughout the north in the next few days."

These animals are not Islamists. Like Al Queida, they are a disgrace to the faith they claim to serve and are nothing more than violent, mindless savages. May they be caught soon and face the penalty that they thoroughtly deserve, but which will be too easy for them. My prayers are with those who lost loved ones and those who were injurted in this atrocity.

Thank you for your balanced comment, Peter. I believe that Allah will punish 'Boko Haram' for this evil and sick deed, and also for bringing our Religion into utter disrepute. You extremist fanatics don't represent the voice of the Muslims at all. The Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) openly forbade the targeting of places of worship, even in times of war. Jihaad means fighting against "those who fight you", according to the Qur'an. Attacking innocents is totally forbidden in Islam. Our sincere condolences to all the victims and their families.
