Egypt ends virginity tests on detainees

2011-12-27 16:26

Cairo - An Egyptian court ordered on Tuesday that forced virginity tests be stopped on female detainees in military prisons.

The case was filed by Samira Ibrahim, a woman who said the army forced her to undergo a virginity test in March after she was arrested during a protest in Cairo's Tahrir Square.

Human rights organisations say that there have been many other such tests by the military.

"The court orders that the execution of the procedure of virginity tests on girls inside military prisons be stopped," said judge Aly Fekry, head of Cairo Administrative court. Hundreds of activists inside the courtroom cheered after the ruling was read out.

    unbelievable ...

      Tom - 2011-12-28 13:04

There are reports that the recently deposed Tunisian regime actually sought out Arab women who donned the Islamic dress code for ''special treatment''. In one instance, it is reported that a woman was pulled out of a Bus and the Police officers rammed a cooldrink bottle into her vagina in front of the other passengers as a warning that other Arab women who chose to don the Islamic dress code would be subject to similar treatment. This is what the Arab Spring is all about......the man on the street fighting for Human rights.

Arab sick perverts.....holier than though but persecute the gender that gave birth to them. sick sick sick

      Riaad - 2011-12-27 23:22

I also think this Egyptian law is sick. But what is also sick are the racist comments on this page. You cannot blame all Arabs for a stupid law in one Arab country.

      Tom - 2011-12-28 12:57

Hi Cheryl....these ''virginity tests'' is actually a barbaric attempt by the Military to discourage women from joining the protests.......please do not ''generalise''...... Arab leaders are NOT the same as the Arab street and this is exactly why we see the protests in the Arab world against their Governments who have been propped up by the West for all this time.

      Tom - 2011-12-28 12:53

Hi Vince....the ''so called'' Muslim ceremony in Vienna, according to the video, is actually the actions of a heretical sect whom are considered not to be true Muslims due to these actions as well as other beliefs.

      BA - 2011-12-28 13:14

At Tom: whatever dude. islam sucks.

      BA - 2011-12-28 13:44

At Jowza1: So why do you comment on my comment?

      Tom - 2011-12-28 13:55

@ BA....your comment ''whatever dude'' sums it up.......irrespective of the proof or explanation or reasoning put forward, your mind is already made up! Pity.....

      BA - 2011-12-28 14:12

Ok Tom and Jowza. Let me tell you why. As far as I am concerned, just like a person, a religion is defined by its actions (in this case the actions of its practitioners). Now you can twist it any way you want, but the fact is that just about every single violent conflict in the world today has as its origin islamist aggression and oppression, and is a manifestation of islam's express and primary commandment to conquer other religions and people and make them submit to "allah's will", or face the violent consequences. After all, one of islam's main pillars is submission. If you look at genocides and human rights violations in the world right now, they occur in mostly muslim countries, such as Sudan, where a genocide is occurring against African Sudanese by arab Sudanese, Morrocco, Egypt, Somalia, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, the Phillipines, Indonesia, Yemen, the USA and UK (terrorist attacks), France (terrorist attacks), the Netherlands (terrorist attacks). Do you spot the common thread, or is it all everyone else's fault? No - fact is, a significant proporion of fervent muslims are also perpetrators of violence, oppression and aggression in the name of islam. Ergo - islam sucks.

      jowza1 - 2011-12-28 14:33

ba,if you going to define a religion by the actions of some of its followers, then with the logic you are using how can we define christianity then.are we going to condemn christianity because of a few catholic priests who are pediophiles, are we going to condemn christianty because both hitler and the apartheid regime used the bible to further their own twisted agendas, are we going to condemn christianity for the loonacy preached by some in the southern belt of america.i can go on and on

      BA - 2011-12-28 15:02

Jowza - classical response from an islamist apologist - instead of acknowledging that islam has some real and serious problems to deal with and should take a good, hard look at istself and take some responsibity, you try deflect attention to other issues. But your arguments are weak because while movements like boko haram and al queda and all the jihadist terrorist organizations define themselves and are essentially islamist-driven ideologies, i.e. by definition muslim organizations, the examples you choose are not. Nazism was not a Christian movement or ideology, nor did it define itself as one. The Catholic priests in question did not committ peadophile in the name of Christianity, shouting "Jesus is great" as they fondled an innocent victim. Apartheid was not be definition a Christian movement or ideology. Even those "crazy" Christian preachers in the South of the USA do not committ acts of terrorism and violent aggression in the name of Christianity. They do not burn mosques and murder innocent civilians practising another religion or even another brand of Christianity they disagree with (I find it ironical that in fact the biggest victim of islamist violence, terrorism and aggression are in fact other muslims). Sorry dude, but fact is, islam as a dominating and domineering, violent, conquering and agressive ideology, is unmatched in the modern world.

      Tom - 2011-12-28 15:24

@ need to open your mind to looking at things from different perspectives..... Yes, many of the conflicts that you mention are in countries predominantly inhabited by Muslims BUT will you now concede that OIL is the other common denominator? Its the Wests greed and desire to control that OIL which has led to much of this turmoil. The Arab Spring is a quest for freedom and emancipation from years of brutal Dictatorships and Monarchies which have been kept in power by the West to protect ''their'' interests regarding the OIL. Armed to the teeth to control the masses from rising up against the exploitation of the regions natural resources for the benefit of the West while the only ones who share in the spoils are the Dictators and Monarchs. Furthermore, the bulk of the people being killed in the conflicts that you mention are actually Muslims by their own Governments who are anything but Islamic! Sure there are nutcases out there who will justify random bombings etc. and this must be condemed in the strongest possible terms but does this now give the West the right to bomb innocent civillians in return? You seem to have simplified everthing by painting everything in Black or White......when theres much more to it.

      BA - 2011-12-28 15:39

Tom, yet again you make apologies without aportioning any responsibilty or accountability to islamist ideologies. Don't you think it's a bit tired always blaming the West for everything? And you are wrong. Many of the conflicts in the world are carried out by islamist organizations and ideologies, not just muslim governments. I am so tired of people making excuses for muslims and blaming everyone but them, instead of saying, "you know what - we need to man up and take some responsibility for our fellow muslim actions and be a part of the solution, not the problem."

      Tom - 2011-12-28 15:57

@ BA......refer my message where I said, ''Sure there are nutcases out there who will justify random bombings etc. and this must be condemed in the strongest possible terms but does this now give the West the right to bomb innocent civillians in return?'' Or are you just seeing what you WANT to see........

      BA - 2011-12-28 16:05

No - I saw your comment, and I guess we will have to disagree. You are trying to say that islamist actions are the result of a few nutcases. I am saying that the indisputable facts are that the majority of violent, aggressive conflicts currently going on in the world have as their origin an islamic ideology, and are NOT just a few lunatics. Read Huntington's "Clash of Civilizations" or go to Memri tv on the internet. I am not going to debate this any more with you. Since I am presenting facts to you and you are presenting islamist apologies to me.

      Tom - 2011-12-28 16:17

@ BA....send me a list of conflicts and we can discuss further on a case by case basis....and see where we can find some middle ground....its your perogative whether you want to or not. Peace out!

      BA - 2011-12-28 16:23

Ok Tom - all the best - I respect your reasoned response, even though I don't agree with your view.
