Paris - Nigerian police say a French engineer who was kidnapped in northern Nigeria 11 months ago escaped on a motorcycle without paying ransom and will fly back to France on Sunday.

Kaduna State Police Comissioner Olufemi Adenaike presented 63-year-old Francis Collomp to reporters on Sunday, saying police have not identified any suspects.

Police say Collomp escaped from his kidnappers in Zaria, Kaduna State, on a motorcycle and went to the nearest police station. He was then escorted to French embassy officials. Police declined to give more details of his escape for security reasons.

He was abducted in December 2012 from Katsina State, Nigeria. Nigeria's Islamic extremist group Boko Haram is believed to be responsible for the kidnapping of another French national, a priest who was abducted on Wednesday.
