Abidjan - A lawyer for the detained wife of Ivory Coast's former president says she's been hospitalised.

Ange Rodrigue Babo Dadje said on Thursday that Simone Gbagbo was undergoing medical check-ups.

The International Criminal Court unsealed an arrest warrant for her in November on crimes against humanity charges.

She has been under house arrest, and the government has not yet said whether it plans to send her to The Hague, where her husband is being held.

She also has been charged locally with genocide and economic crimes related to the conflict.

Months of violence erupted after her husband, former president Laurent Gbagbo, refused to leave office despite losing the November 2010 run-off vote.

The conflict left at least 3 000 people killed, according to UN estimates.
