Hamburg - Ten Somalis were convicted on Friday of piracy charges by a German court and sentenced to prison terms of between 2 and 7 years, in Germany's first piracy case for centuries.

The men were captured by the Dutch Navy after they seized German freighter off the coast of Somalia in 2010.

They were extradited to Germany and stood trial in Hamburg for attacking sea transportation and extortionate kidnapping.
