Lawyer: Gaddafi's killers should be tried

2012-10-20 09:30

Jerusalem - The Israeli attorney for the daughter of Muammar Gaddafi says those responsible for the longtime leader's killing a year ago should be brought to justice.

The lawyer, Nick Kaufman, was hired last year by the late dictator's daughter, Aisha.

Kaufman has represented other controversial figures in the past on the grounds that everybody deserves a fair trial.

Gadhafi's son Saif al-Islam Gaddafiwas captured a month after his father's death on 20 October 2011, and is being held in Libya.

The International Criminal Court has not approved yet the new Libyan government's plans to try Saif al-Islam in Libya for crimes against humanity.

Libya wants to try him at home.

Kaufman accused Libya of being incapable of giving Gaddafi's son a fair trial. He spoke on Friday to The Associated Press.

Of course. What they did to Ghadaffi was wrong and makes them no better than him. They are as guilty of the same heinous acts as he was.

You are right, but after 40+ years of brutal dictatorship, they lost their cool, that is perhaps understandable. Ghaddafi did after all stash around $200bn in foreign bank accounts stolen from his beleaguered citizenry. Where do you think his daughter got the money to pay the Israeli lawyer? What would be interesting is for the Israeli lawyer to go to Tripoli and start shouting the odds.

I think they deserve a medal, he got what he dear served by the hands of his own people

      terry.moses.315 - 2012-10-20 12:08

hannah,if negative sentiment towards someone justifies their cold blooded murder, than we should all fight for our lives to be 'popular'.

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-10-20 13:54

So true Hannah, there are more loonies of the violent left, on this site ,who miss this mass murderer, than in the whole of Libya. At least this terrorist can no longer harm the Libyan population. May he rot in the libyan desert sand !!!!!!!

      kevin.watson.7906 - 2012-10-20 17:12

Terry Ghaddafi was a cold blooded murderer and thought nothing about arranging for the bombing of a PanAm flight. In a perfect world he would have been tried and executed for his crimes. The world is not perfect and Ghaddafi did not allow his opponents the benefit of the rule of law an independent judiciary.

well maybe if it will bring him back to life so he can be tried for all the murders he commited and ordered....

      andrez.kolesky - 2012-10-20 13:57

He'll end up the same ... no doubt.

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-10-20 19:52

. And this time in Green Square, with 2.7 million Libyans, singing and dancing !!!

  • marta.ferreira.9803 - 2012-10-20 13:13

It’s interesting to see a Jewish Lawyer defending a Libyan terrorist. Just shows what people will do for money. DISGUSTING!!!!

      Chatz Connect Klerksdorp - 2013-06-01 12:00

Is Aisha Gadaffi classified as a terrorist?????

  • Rashida Patel - 2012-10-20 17:54

Agree ,just look @ america hunting ambassador's killers. Why selective justice, american leaders no different from arab dictators

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-11-09 07:28

The longer you hold these utterly stupid beliefs, the longer your community will be decimated by suicide bombers and unelected dictators. Your choice.

  • AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-10-20 19:45

The ironi is that Aisha pays this lawyer, with money stolen from the Libyan people !!!

  • douglas.reid.921 - 2012-10-20 21:14
