Liberia to burn $4m worth of dagga

Monrovia - The government of Liberia has decided to burn a nearly 300kg load of marijuana that was smuggled into the country from neighbouring Sierra Leone by a member of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf's motorcade.

Information Minister Lewis Brown said on Friday that the burning will take place this weekend under the supervision of the country's Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

The DEA estimates that the drugs are valued at $4m.

Police officer Perry Dolo, a member of the presidential escort detail, and four others, including a man believed to be a Sierra Leonean military official, were arrested in connection with the smuggling of the drugs.
