New York - Mali's Prime Minister Cheick Modibo Diarra on Wednesday urged the UN Security Council to agree to the formation of an international military force to help oust Islamist rebels in its north.

"We request the adoption by the Security Council of a resolution authorising under Chapter 7 of the Charter the setting up of an international military force, one which would be composed of all those willing and able to us reconquer occupied territories in the north of our country," he told high-level talks.
