Mauritanian junta names new PM

Nouakchott - Mauritania's military junta on Thursday appointed its ambassador to the EU, Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, as prime minister, a source close to the junta said.

The new prime minister has been charged with "forming a transitional government", the source, who did not want to be identified, told AFP.

Ould Mohamed Laghdaf has been Mauritania's ambassador to the EU and Belgium since 2005.
