Muslims attack Christians in Egypt’s south

2013-03-20 07:35

Assiut - Hundreds of Muslim villagers in Egypt's south have attacked Christian-owned stores in search of a girl whose family claims was abducted.

The villagers assaulted the stores on Tuesday and surrounded two churches in the city of al-Wasta in Bani Suef province in Egypt's south. Security forces guarded the churches. No casualties were reported.

The college-aged girl disappeared around one month ago. The crowd accused local Christian of kidnapping her.

Bani Suef's prosecutor, Hamdi Farouk, said there was no reason to believe Christians were involved in her disappearance.

Security chief Ibrahim Hudeib said the girl left her house with her gold and passport in hand and may have fled with a local Muslim boy.

Past clashes have been sparked by rumors of conversion, Muslim-Christian love affairs and the construction of churches.

Ai Hajira your brothers don't need any reason to take up arms Islam was founded on violence, your prophet muhammad was a violent man who pillaged, plundered nearby villages and caravans,I don't even want to mention the rapes and murders that occured in the name of for yourself,it is all noted down in your quran.

      Sipho Marete - 2013-03-20 10:30

Why are the muslims always attacking christians? One never hear of christians attacking muslims!!!!

      Abner M. Mophethe - 2013-03-20 11:14

@Harija,im sure you are a reasonable man and a peaceful Muslim,if this girl was trully kidnapped by a Christian, are'nt there laws in Egypt that can assisst her family to get her back?would you do the same and join that mob all in the name of religion?

  • Abner M. Mophethe - 2013-03-20 11:07

why do muslims always believe such nonsense they destroy everything in their path only to find that they were wrong,if islam be the religion of peace than why is there such hatred for christians?

      SarcasticHeathen - 2013-03-20 16:17

Might have something to do with the Crusades...

      Joe Soapie - 2013-03-21 22:20

Also, their entire book (IIRC) speaks of intolerance and the destruction of other religions.

  • Don Waan - 2013-03-20 11:23

So what many of you are saying is like using the analogy that if a christian attacks a non-christian, then christianity is the problem. You forget the christian crusades who murdered masses of people in the past. Though we cannot say that christianity is evil. Its not a religion that is bad, but the people who themselves who are bad. Basic logic.

      Avremel Niselow - 2013-03-20 12:19

True, but when the religion calls for the killing of the infidel, blame must be apportioned to it.

      Martin Prinsloo - 2013-03-20 12:45

Compare Islam's books with the Bible. You will find the answer.

      Don Waan - 2013-03-20 13:50

@Avremel You state merely what you interpret, not what is actually meant. One needs to study the context and background of a text before properly understanding its message. @Lamb Islam's book (Qur'an) confirms much of what is stated in the Bible. Google it.

      Avremel Niselow - 2013-03-20 14:02

Don there are multiple violent verses in the Koran. The founder of the religion, Mohammed spread his ideology by the sword. Islam and violence have always gone together.

      Don Waan - 2013-03-20 14:31

Avremel, like I said, you're stating merely what you interpret or hear. Knowing the surface often leads to misinformation (don't judge a book by its cover). If you understood the background and history, you would understand. Muhammad (Peace be upon him) did not spread Islam by the sword. The fighting you refer to was for the defence of those who accepted Islam from their oppressors at the time. FYI There are verses in the Qur'an which speak of the sacredness of life, all life. If violence is mentioned, there would always be alternative verses referring to forgiveness and mercy, which is better. People often take the so-called violent text out of context for their own purposes. That said, do know that it is people who sin, not religion. Another example: just because priests/bishops/cardinals are currently being charged with sexual crimes, doesn't mean that Christianity is to blame.

      Alan Kennedy - 2013-03-20 15:52

The Koran is largely the Old Testament; leaving out large parts, especially the story of David - which is unfortunate because there's a part where David is denied the right to complete the Temple because of the blood on his hands... Love is all you need [and sometimes a thick skin]

      Avremel Niselow - 2013-03-20 16:57

Don, by the time Mohammed had died the entire Arabian peninsula had been conquered, that is impossible to achieve through mere defensive measures. His successors then went about continuing his work.

      johan.mostert.967 - 2013-03-20 16:57

"Don there are multiple violent verses in the Koran." The same as with the christian bible.

      Avremel Niselow - 2013-03-20 18:58

Indeed Johan, but you don't see any Christians killing Muslims because they suspect someone of burning a bible.

Momo and his humble bunch...yeah right,no tolerance for anyone else its sickening. No wonder the jews are giving the muslims a bashing.Eradicate all Mosques in the west then and banish the 50million or so so greatly accepted to live in Europe where they go on raping innocents and line the benefit ques.Death to religion please starting with this fascist koran.

  • Livo Naledi - 2013-03-20 13:38

the religion of peace, fighting a holy war against the crusaders, hmmm! this mahomed must have been himself the anti-christ, the false prophet. all these evil and terrifying deeds are done in his name by his followers. remember what the LORD JESUS said, dear people of GOD, that, a servant is not greater than his master. i mean, if all these things are done in false prophet mahomed's name, you get the picture of the man himself. i rest my case!

      SarcasticHeathen - 2013-03-20 16:19

You do realize, that to "god's chosen people", the Jews, Jesus is a false prophet, right?

      GB Garratt - 2013-03-20 17:04

So what is your LORD JESUS doing about it? Nothing of course. Your useless god never ever does anything at all except serve as an excuse for clever men in dresses, silly hats or smart suits to suck money out of the pockets of the desperately poor and stupid..

      Tashina Rahman - 2013-03-20 19:32

Check up on your facts, The Holy Prophet (pbuh) was after the time of Jesus Christ, Jesus was our prophet named (Hazrat Isa (pbuh). Kindly read up before making such senseless allegations about a religion.

  • Musawashe Moyo - 2013-03-20 14:17

Be careful what you say about Prophets of God that you don't know,it will be held against you on judgement day, believe it or not.

      GB Garratt - 2013-03-20 17:06

SO your useless do nothing god just sits around, doing nothing, until you die. Well that is clever as then he never has to do anything to protect his followers when alive. As for judgement. PAH! Let us for a moment assume there is such a place as heaven. Nobody knows what it is like but we do know who is going to be there. Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, George Bush, Benny Hinn, hundreds of popes and Jeffrey Dahmer (who saved himself before his execution). Would you want to spend eternity with that bunch? No sirree! Not me. So lets see if the companions who we will meet in hell are likely to be more congenial. George Carlin, Christopher Hitchens, Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, you name it all the interesting people are in hell. And where do the bad girls go, heh?

  • Philip - 2013-03-20 19:02

    More madness from the Muslims.

  • Nols Combrink - 2013-03-21 09:19

Interesting. Almost every comment on this article exhibit the intolerance you condemn; Christian, Muslim and Atheist alike. Conclusion? Intolerance and violence is a human condition not religious.
