Abudja - The head of Nigeria's federal electoral committee says the country could hold presidential elections in either January or April of 2011.

Maurice Iwu told reporters on Tuesday that the National Assembly would determine what month elections would be held. The legislative body must vote to set up the three elections for the National Assembly, state assemblies and the presidency.

Typically, presidential elections in this young democracy occur in April. However, many have been pushing for an earlier election as President Umaru Yar'Adua remains ill and hasn't been seen since November.
