2012-10-31 12:19

Maputo - The hunt was on Wednesday for a small aircraft that was last heard of over Mozambique's remote northwest, with fears growing about the fate of its occupants.

The craft - reported to be a small Baron 55 - was last heard of travelling in Mozambique's vast province of Tete en route to Lanseria airport, north of Johannesburg, the Mozambique Civil Aviation Agency said.

The plane did not send out a distress signal and no sign of its wreckage has been found.

  • zelda.dickson - 2012-10-31 12:51

Crazy to fly a small plane in this weather. The big planes battle so where is the hope of a small plane.

  • cliff.slabbert - 2012-10-31 13:03

What were they doing flying in such bad weather?

      PumaFred - 2012-10-31 13:32

The weather was fine at the time

Is this the same plane that went missing earlier in the week or is this the 2nd to go down over Moz?

  • majoor86 - 2012-10-31 13:10

there was only 2 persons on board. please get the facts straight.

  • nicholas.dorfling.7 - 2012-10-31 13:11

News 24 / AFP, please ensure that you get your facts right before publishing stories. It is a poor standard of journalism not to find out the facts & speculate information. It was a Baron 58, with 2 crew members on board.

Presumably a charter: who are the passengers?

      nicholas.dorfling.7 - 2012-10-31 13:24

It was a Ferry flight, No Passengers.

      Mike - 2012-11-01 11:47

      Are we related?

  • Andrea - 2012-10-31 13:43

Any update on this yet, anybody?

      kevin.grinaker - 2012-11-01 20:33

Shelly. The father is a friend of mine, and if Rudi is correct, then I have flown that particular aircraft many times.

  • natashakatja - 2012-10-31 14:11

There were only 2 passengers in the aircraft, the pilot and his son were flying it down from Uganda. I know the family and they are frantic with worry. There is still no news! It is very sad!!

      Khetha Hlophe - 2012-10-31 22:16

I hope they will be found alive.\r\nHope never kills

  • JanGrimbeek - 2012-10-31 15:24

Not a HUNT it's a SEARCH, why on earth use such terms !

  • roger.conroy.39 - 2012-10-31 16:16

Better research please! Is there a law in journalism that says reporters are required to be totally ignorant fools when it comes to aviation?

  • paul.davids.923 - 2012-11-01 07:16

    no update on this yet?

  • riotousr - 2012-11-01 11:38

Somebody stole something from Mozambique and the Mozambican cursed them. Stay at home. As dead as a dodo. Baron 55.

  • richy.rex.77 - 2012-11-01 11:51

Is it where they caught and ate the shark called Brenda Fassie? If so stop looking any far look in the pots for occupants.

  • yolandansimbi - 2012-11-01 12:36

i always found these small planes scary! I hope the pilot and the passengers make it home safe.

  • chavaugn - 2012-11-04 21:50

I hope that all efforts that are being put in during this search for the plane and the father and son bring back good news and that all is well. To my uncle Reynier who is going to help in the search, good luck to all of you.

I was flying in the same airspace at that time and there was no distress call due to the extreme clutter of the frequency 127.7 over Mozambique. The ATC was only concerned about their ETA for Beira, nothing else.... Maybe they should have declared an emergency....but why if you are maintaining 3000ft on one engine....point is, that frequency is known as being`bad` and no airplane flying in that airspace is safe due to good ATC!
