Pope to visit Kenya, Uganda, CAR in Nov on first Africa trip

Vatican City (dpa) - Pope Francis will visit Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic in late November, the Vatican said on Thursday.

Francis will be in Kenya November 25-27, in Uganda November 27-29 and in Central African Republic November 29-30.

It will be the Argentine pontiff's first visit to Africa, and the 11th foreign trip of his pontificate.

Francis has so far travelled to Brazil; Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories; South Korea; Albania; the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France; Turkey; Sri Lanka and the Philippines; Bosnia; Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Later this month, the leader of the Catholic Church will visit Cuba and the United States.

The last pope in Africa was Francis' predecessor, Benedict XVI, who was in Benin in November 2011.
