Prophet film: Al-Qaeda wants holy war

2012-10-13 12:23

Cairo - The leader of al-Qaeda has urged Muslims to wage holy war against the United States and Israel over a film that insulted Islam's Prophet Muhammad.

Ayman al-Zawahri praised as "honest and zealous" demonstrators who breached the US Embassy in Cairo and attackers who stormed the US "embassy" in Benghazi in violence linked to the film. The American ambassador and three others died in the 11 September attack on the US Consulate in the Libyan city.

The amateur film Innocence of Muslims was made by an Egyptian-born American citizen.

In an audio message released by al-Qaeda's media arm As-Sahab and posted on militant websites early on Saturday, al-Zawahri claimed Washington allowed the film's production under the pretext of freedom of expression, "but this freedom did not prevent them from torturing Muslim prisoners".

Where does the local Muslim community stand on this issue. Maybe Riaad Moosas "Material" video is also a source of discontent for these radical blood thirsty Islamic fundamentalist killers and reason to start a holy war nĂȘ?

Thank you kindly MemeMan, this is the objective nature of analysis we all must learn from and harness. You are an enlightened fellow.

      ever.ryman - 2012-10-13 18:07

Exactly MemeMan-and in many ways that's part of the problem. The voices of all the decent, honourable and good people who are our friends and collegues are being drowned out by the lunatics shooting in the streets, and unfortunately those are the ones who are speaking for the Muslim world at the moment. That has to change.

According to some, the US attacked itself on 9/11 and Al-Quaida is a fabrication of the US to destabilize the Middle East. Goodthing, Dunkie, Vox, et al. Incredible how delusional some people can be.

      marcusvandermerwe - 2012-10-13 21:23

Ziyaad, why don't you believe CNN but choose to believe that webiste? Just as America fills the world with propoganda, so does Islam. Your views are biased just like the west. No difference, just a different angle.

      LanfearM - 2012-11-08 11:14

@ ziyaad.zizoo - oh please man! You choose to believe THAT website?! Debunked, delusional and full of conspiracy theories. But then, it is nothing new for people to believe any claim without evidence, just as long as it corresponds with their own views and ideals.

War war war!!! Called for over an over. War isn't about who is right, only who is left. Would another war costing 27 million lives satisfy the bloodlust consuming the world?

  • cindy.wrathex.ruthven - 2012-10-13 15:00

Replying to Mememan I have many Muslim friends and family, so please don't think I don't know Muslims or their culture. I am also a big fan of Riaad Moosa. I am speaking from a political point of view, meaning that moderate Muslims should speak out against the violence perpetuated by these fundamentalists. Speak out against vicious Islamic hatred, let the public see the moderate side.

      Iqhawe_eliqotho - 2012-10-13 17:36

Wonderful and un-biased insight into a serious matter of interpretation. The moderates do and will continue to speak out against this disgusting perversion of Islam, Al-Qaeda. They are not Muslims, they're murderers! The voices of true Muslims just need to be loud and long enough for the media to hear them in oppostion of extremists. Thank you cindy.wrathex.ruthven for your objectivism, it is voices like yours that will aid the public in seeing what you hope them to.

  • japie.bosman - 2012-10-13 19:03

What I cannot understand, if Al-Qaeda wants a holy war, why not just start it and get it over please. Why call on the rest of the world to attack, are you afraid of getting killed yourself and now you need to get others to do your dirty work. America must just bomb the whole middle east and get rid of this pest called Islam

to be optimist and shoot the point, this is really an event wich can cause anger with lot of muslim people, and every relligous person whether is muslim or cristian can understand the councequence of interfering and insulting a big nation's relligion. But i am totally against that idea of attackng the rest world wich are nt muslim 4 the sake of just 1 bad person's action. And im here to urge every1 of muslim and cristians must reject and against 2gether the persons who can create holy world war like the man who made this flim

  • cindy.wrathex.ruthven - 2012-10-14 07:13

In the end it all comes down to lack of education and severe indoctrination. Some groups of people are so indoctrinated that they simply cannot have a balanced point of view. They are beyond what I call the 'common reality'. It is for the sake of the common reality that the South African Muslim community should speak out. My personal reality is a world where religion is simply a part of human history, something I do not adhere to, in my reality there is no god, I take responsibility for my actions. I respect the common reality and and I endeavour to be tolerant to the reality of other groups or individuals. However I am not stupid or passive enough to just except the silence of the local Muslim community on such serious issues. When the suicide bombs go off, anyone can be a victim, a Muslim, atheist, Christian or Jewish person. I will speak out against mindless violence no matter who the source of it is. The hope is for a better, more educated and tolerant world for all of us and our children. I am exhausted intellectually from the energy-leeching idiots and indoctrinated around me, yet I have to keep going, keep fighting the fight for education. I will not relent.

      LanfearM - 2012-10-14 07:47

Beautifully said Cindy! What many of the religious either don't know or seem to forget, is that atheism is taking the ultimate responsibility for your own actions, i.e. no god or devil to blame anything on. Education, that is the key to everything, getting rid of ignorance and superstition. Sure, if people want to believe then it is fine with me, but fighting wars about it, planting bombs, indoctrinating and oppressing people for the sake of religion [or any other agenda], that is evil.

America must attacked just like it is attacking other countries for nothing. Poking its nose in any regime that it see as a threat to it getting every resource it needs for free. All elections outside Europe are null and void until America has \audited\ them. \r\n@cuk this America
