Queens jet off to Vegas while Swazis starve

2012-07-27 09:13

Johannesburg - There has been widespread condemnation for the Swazi royal family after it emerged that three wives of Swazi King Mswati III are planning a lavish Las Vegas gambling holiday.

The Mail&Guardian reported that the wives would be part of a royal delegation of 66 people flying per chartered jet to the US gambling capital.

This comes after the king just days ago warned the people of Swaziland against the “love of money” during a religious sermon.

The delegation was apparently booked into 10 separate villas, each costing R20 000 a night.

Money for the trip was to come from a national fund.

Swaziland is currently in the grip of a national civil servant strike.

A trade union spokesperson also slammed the country’s royal family saying the trip was an unnecessary indulgence at a time when the country was battling poverty and unemployment.

      lulama.nokubeni - 2012-07-27 09:44

Why is Swaziland governed by a stupid King anyway?

      twain.smith.7 - 2012-07-27 09:55

Are you saying it's NOT the whites fault somehow? Wow.

      Squeegee - 2012-07-27 10:08

We, the SA taxpayers are paying for this! We gave this despot R2 Bil recently. This should be directly credited to Zipper.

      arthur.hugh - 2012-07-27 10:15

Didn't SA lend them a few million last year because they were bankrupt? Anyway... they're no different to the ANC, partying it up while the country starves. Have fun, chops, while it lasts.

      willie.vanschoor - 2012-07-27 10:29

Lulama we have an identical situation in Natal. Why the need for Goodwill Zwelethini costing the SA taxpayer R60m a year!!!

      peter.ndamase - 2012-07-27 10:59

I guess you also blame yourself for ANC blunders, or not! - 2012-07-27 11:24

This is why South Africa needed to lend money to Mswati?? Disgusting.

      lownabester - 2012-07-28 20:37

      rontheogre - 2012-07-27 11:35

Simple answer. All the people that blame the imperialists while pi$$ing away money taken from their starving and impoverished people. Only these in denial need an explanation.

      Warwick - 2012-07-27 14:07

"They' are the so called indigenous people of this continent. Blame, blame, blame yet keep your corrupt leaders and their many wives and children in power to get fatter and fatter while the rest sit, with there sad brown eyes and hands held out (African salute)BEGGING.

  • veritas.odium.paret - 2012-07-27 09:38

Somebody needs to tell Mswati exactly what happened to the last royal family of Russia and how he's playing directly into that scenario...

  • gary.williams.7186896 - 2012-07-27 09:44

Nice one Queens, maybe they jetted off in Malema's Cesna while he stays behind and fights for the rights of the Swazi masses...

      Squeegee - 2012-07-27 11:59

YES all with South African taxpayers money!!!! Last year this time our dear anc rulers gave Swaziland R2 billion (R2,000,000,000) Nice sum to charter a flight for the king's wives, book them into Villas at R20,000 a night. MR ZUMA: YOUR REACTION> CHUCK ME FARLIE - just in Africa, JUST IN AFRICA

  • rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-07-27 11:49

The epitomy of African Traditional Leadership. Now think about Afriforum's report yesterday stating that 20 million South Africans are living on traditional land (and therefore subject to traditional leadership values (in return for a virtually compulsary vote for the anc). Makes you think, doesn't it????

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-07-27 12:41

Using part of the money the loal neighbour, South Africa, had lend them?.
