Cape Town – A 14-year old girl who managed to survive when 92 people, thought to be migrants, died of thirst in the Sahara desert in Niger has described how she buried her family.

According to a BBC report the teenage girl narrated the bitter experience of having to bury her mother and  two sisters when they died of thirst and hunger after three days of misery in the desert.

A Reuters report said rescuers found the 92 bodies strewn across the desert after their vehicles broke down and they died of thirst. Most of them were women and children believed to be from Niger.

Many of the victims were in an advanced state of decomposition and had been partly devoured by animals, probably jackals, one of the rescuers said.
