Tourist plane crashes in Kenya

2012-08-22 16:05

Nairobi - An aircraft with 14 passengers crashed on Wednesday in Kenya's Masai Mara national park, one of the East African's country's most popular safari destinations for tourists, officials said.

Mutia Mwandikwa from Kenya's Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the crash of the propeller plane, but could not give details of any fatalities.

Morris Sijenyi of the Flying Doctors Service air ambulance service said the organisation had sent a team to the site.

"Our team responded to a distress call from the Masai Mara. We have our team on the ground, they are bringing those recovered to Nairobi," he told AFP.

"We do not have any more details since our team does not have time to answer calls as they are attending to the injured."

Had the best flight of my life over the Masi Mara a few years ago. Did it in a hot air balloon, early in the morning. Pity some chaps met their end flying into the Mara. RIP
