Khartoum - Guards on the roof of the US embassy in Sudan's capital fired warning shots on Friday as a security perimeter was breached and dozens of Islamic flag-waving protesters scaled an outer wall, an AFP reporter said.

A police vehicle near the embassy was also torched as hundreds of demonstrators broke through an outer security cordon after one protester was hit by a police vehicle and killed, a medic and the AFP reporter said.

Meanwhile, a second protester was found dead outside the embassy, his clothing soaked in blood, an AFP journalist said after a demonstrator was killed earlier when he was hit by a police vehicle.

The body was found at the foot of the compound's outer wall, but it was not immediately clear how he died, the reporter said.

Do these guys have to go the slash and burn route? I understand why they are angry, but why cant they just demonstrate peacefully?
