Lusaka - Father Richard Luonde, a Zambia-based priest, has lambasted the ruling Patriotic Front's decision to partner with the opposition Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) party, saying the development is an insult to Zambians.
According to The Post, Luonde urged citizens to not allow themselves to be taken for granted by the ruling party, accusing the PF of betraying former president Michael Sata's wishes.
Luonde claimed that Zambians were surprised by the move and accusing the PF of lacking vision.
Recent reports revealed that President Edgar Lungu had actively been seeking a pact between the two parties, drawing widespread criticism from across the country.
Lungu said the MMD had always worked with the ruling party and would, thus, be a good option as a "cousin party" ahead of the upcoming elections.
Luonde, said the ruling party was blatantly telling the voting masses that they made a mistake by voting the opposition out of power in the previous election.
He added that the pact could not be forgiven by the people of Zambia but only by God himself.
Luapula Province chairperson of the opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), Joseph Malamba also weighed in, saying Lungu was "distorting" the efforts of PF supporters.
Zambia goes to the polls on August 11.
