Kigali - The mediator for peace talks aimed at ending Burundi's turmoil says the mediation process should be all inclusive.

Officials of Burundi's ruling party said the government postponed talks this week because it opposes the inclusion of members of the opposition who allegedly plotted a coup to overthrow President Pierre Nkurunziza.

The mediator, Ugandan Defense Minister Crispus Kiyonga, said on Thursday that Burundi's government has not rejected the talks but wants to discuss who should be included.

Burundi's crisis began when Nkurunziza's candidacy was announced in April.

Violent street protests led to a failed coup in May and a rebellion.

Violence has escalated since Nkurunziza's re-election July.
