Lesotho police probe attempted murder of Zim-born editor

Maseru – Police in Lesotho have launched a probe into the attempted murder of Zimbabwean-born editor of Lesotho Times, Lloyd Mutungamiri, Zimbabwe's state-owned Herald newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Lesotho police spokesperson Superintendent Clifford Molefe said the police were still investigating the incident.

Mutungamiri was shot in the driveway of his home as he was about to drive to work on Sunday morning.

His wife accused the country's military of being behind the failed assassination.

"The incident occurred around 23:30 on Saturday and we are still investigating what could be the cause of the tragedy. The public will be informed once the investigations are complete," Molefe was quoted as saying.

The investigations came a day after regional media groups condemned the attack, with the human rights group, Amnesty International, calling on the Lesotho government to launch a "prompt and thorough investigation" into the alleged attempted assassination.
