Nigerian officials say that seven people have been killed in a suicide attack on a mosque in Konduga town in the country's north.

Bello Dambatta, Head of Rescue Operations of Borno State Emergency Management Agency, said on Monday that seven others were injured. He said the dead and injured have been evacuated to medical facilities in Maiduguri, about 30km away.

Dambatta said the suicide bomber pretended to join early morning prayers on Monday before detonating his explosives.

The attack comes after the arrests of about 22 Boko Haram extremist leaders and fighters said to be responsible for the mass kidnapping of schoolgirls in Chibok and more than 50 suicide bombings.

Boko Haram has killed more than 20,000 people during its 9-year insurgency in Nigeria.
