Windhoek - Namibian President Hage Geingob has unveiled a prosperity plan which he claims will ensure adequate provision of basic food, clothing, decent shelter, water, basic infrastructure and quality education for every citizen in the country.

Speaking after what he has described as a "historic meeting" with his predecessors, Geingob outlined his Harambee Prosperity Plan, which is intended to complement the country's Fourth National Development Plan (ND4), as well as other existing plans, local newspaper New Era has reported.

During his meeting with predecessors Hifikepunye Pohamba and Sam Nujoma, Geingob spoke of what he deemed the "New Africa", where leaders are democratically elected and are not persecuted for serving their terms.

"In the New Africa, coups d’état are no more. In the New Africa, our leaders are democratically elected, serve their terms and stay in their countries after their terms of office. In the New Africa, our retired leaders are respected as fathers of their nations,” Geingob was quoted as saying.

According to an All Africa report, the Harambee Prsoperity Plan seeks to make Namibia the most competitive economy in the southern African region, holding government and ministries more accountable in their dealings.

In addition, the plan also aims at making Namibia "a new-look society" by March 2020.

Geingob is expected to provide finer details of the mandate during the delivery of his State of the Nation Address next week.
