Mugabe and 'Despicable Me': Porn, pirated movies posted on Zanu-PF website

Harare - President Robert Mugabe’s ruling Zanu-PF party had its website hacked and pirated movies and pornographic pictures posted on it, reports say.

The hack on Tuesday appears to have gone undetected for some time, according to news and blogging website Techzim

Pirated animated movies like Despicable Me 3 and Cars 3 were loaded under the Zanu-PF website's publication section, and pornographic pictures were also posted.

Crooked Mozambique cops sent packing after tourist extortion bid

Durban - The entire Mozambican police force unit in the popular beachfront tourist resort of Ponta do Ouro has been suspended after local residents accused them of extorting bribes from South African tourists.

Several local business owners welcomed the news on Tuesday, which was featured on Mozambique television and the local newspaper O’Pais.

Their suspension follows the wide dissemination of an amateur cellphone video on social media showing an angry crowd blocking a police vehicle and shouting at officers.

Zim bond notes to reach half a billion: Central bank chief

Harare - Zimbabwe's central bank chief says the country will print an extra 300 million dollars’ worth of bond notes, despite an earlier promise not to exceed the 200 million figure.

Any mention of money printing in Zimbabwe fuels fears of a return to hyper-inflation and the black market trade in scarce foreign currency that peaked in 2008.

Bond notes were introduced last November to ease chronic shortages of US dollars, and to encourage exporters who earn the country foreign currency.

Zimbabwean soldiers, police clash in capital Harare

Harare – Zimbabwean soldiers reportedly ran amok and "mercilessly" attacked members of the police, much to the amusement of the on-looking public in Harare on Tuesday. 

According to New, a group of soldiers who were armed with sjamboks, logs, and sticks chased down members of the country's infamous police along Robert Mugabe Road.

Ailing Buhari becomes subject of betting game in Nigeria

Lagos - Nigeria's ailing President Muhammadu Buhari who has been away in London for almost three months has become the subject of a sports betting game in his homeland.

A popular sports gaming site,, is asking those interested to stake their money on when Buhari who left Nigeria on May 7 on his latest medical trip to the British capital, would return.

The company usually focusses on English Premiership, Champions League and other sporting events, but recently launched the 'Buhari to Return' game: “You can bet on if he will return on the 2nd week of August or the 4th"

Kenyan election official was strangled, tortured: Autopsy

Nairobi -  An autopsy shows that a murdered Kenyan electoral official crucial to the running of elections next week was tortured then strangled.

Christopher Msando's body was identified on Monday at a city morgue. He was in charge of running biometric readers and electronic transmission equipment meant to greatly reduce incidences of electoral fraud.
