Kampala - Uganda's main opposition leader has been arrested by police while trying to leave his home near the capital.

Kizza Besigye had planned to visit the election commission's headquarters in Kampala on Monday to get detailed copies of the results from the country's presidential election.

Ssemujju Nganda, a spokesman for Besigye's party, confirmed that Besigye had been taken to an unknown location Monday.

The election commission announced on Saturday that long-time President Yoweri Museveni won the election with more than 60% of the votes, while Besigye got 35%.

Besigye, who has been arrested multiple times in the past week and was later put under house arrest, has alleged massive vote rigging and called the results fraudulent. He said he may petition the country's supreme court and needs to gather evidence.
