Police fire teargas to disperse traders and buyers on a street market in the Kenyan city of Kisumu, after the government ordered a shutdown to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Kenya reported its first confirmed case of coronavirus on Friday, 13 March, saying a woman who returned from the United States tested positive for the illness in Nairobi.

It is the first confirmed case of the new coronavirus in the East African region at the time.
