Mombasa - A video of a Kenyan MP Suleiman Dori bursting into tears over poverty in his constituency has gone viral.

Dori, who is a member of the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and an MP for Msambweni, lamented that his constituents had been neglected by its leaders.

He shocked members of public, who had gathered for the opening of a dispensary in Gazi, Kwale County, when he burst into tears after recounting how he was brought up in poverty.

"My mum brought us up selling mabuyu (candied baobab seeds)," he narrated amid tears.

A recent World Bank report ranked Kwale as Kenya’s fifth richest county after Kiambu, Nyeri, Kajiado and Nakuru.
