Wajir - A 17-year-old girl in Wajir County, Kenya, has sued her father, uncle and husband over forced marriage and defilement.

The girl was forcefully married off to a 35-year-old man earlier this month.

According to NTV, the third-born girl in a family of 10 was forced out of school in class three to look after her younger siblings, before her father and uncle colluded to marry her off.

When she attempted to escape from her husband’s home, he allegedly tied her with ropes, with the help of her father, Kenya Citizen TV said.

Later she reported the matter to police, who arrested the three on Monday evening.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Enock Cherono, the three denied the charges and were released on cash bond of KS100 000 each.
