Lusaka – Zambian President Edgar Lungu has reportedly hired image builders ahead of the upcoming elections next month, according to a report on Wednesday.

According to The Post, Lungu hired image builders from Asia to help him manage the voters’ perception and to win next month’s general elections.

Sources close to the president revealed that Lungu had also met with Timor Consulting at Henry Courtyard Lodge in Mansa to review the progress made in "efforts to rig the upcoming elections".

The sources further claimed that the closure of the privately owned Post newspaper had worsened Lungu's image.

Zambian authorities ordered the closure of the publishing company, Post Newspapers Limited, on June 21, demanding $6.1m in tax arrears.

The unidentified aide added that Lungu was also aware of this, thus, his efforts to build his image.

"The President has hired some image builders from Asia, from India. They have already arrived in the country and are helping him with public perception; it is bad out there. Things are not looking good for the boss and he knows," the sources were quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, a different report by The Post said that a former minister in ex-president Michael Sata's administration, Robert Sichinga, blasted Lungu's move, saying that the only way he could boost his "tainted" image was by upholding the rule of law.
