Harare - Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe says his children love their electronic gadgets - and he's not at all happy about it, the Standard newspaper reported on Sunday.

Mugabe, 91, told ruling Zanu-PF party supporters that childrens' lives today are "rotten", the paper reported.

"All they want is to go to parties and use electronic gadgets to communicate with friends. They have lots of friends on these gadgets. I see this even with my own children at home," Mugabe was reported as saying.

The president had three children late in life with wife Grace, 49. Bona, his daughter and eldest child, is married and has set up home in Harare.

The president's sons are Robert Junior, believed to be around 22 and Chatunga, 18. In 2012 Mugabe, who is a former teacher, admitted that Robert had failed his A-level university entrance exams.

"[The] kind of life which our kids follow today is rotten," Mugabe said, according to the Standard.

The president's office has never confirmed the authenticity of a photo that surfaced on social media last December, apparently showing the First Family at a restaurant somewhere in Asia, where they were on holiday at an undisclosed location.

In the picture, Grace and the children are smiling and posing for the camera. Mugabe looks away from the camera, hands folded and evidently fed up.

Press reports then said the pictures were posted on Robert Junior's Instagram account.
