Mugabe ridicules 'ignoramus' Tsvangirai

2013-08-26 11:29

Cape Town – Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has launched a scathing attack on bitter rival and outgoing Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai saying working with him required "real patience and endurance" because he was an ignoramus who was woefully unaware of his ignorance, according to

Mugabe was speaking at the National Heroes Acre in Harare during the burial of one of the county’s veteran freedom fighters. It was his first public speech since his inauguration last week on Thursday.

"You see, an illiterate person who is aware that they are ignorant, you can deal with [them] better," Mugabe said in apparent reference to Tsvangirai's lack of college-level education.

"You are better off with an ignorant person who is aware, conscious of his ignorance, who accepts that he is ignorant, but if you are ignorant of your ignorance then it's a big problem."

Lone stray locust

Mugabe according to Zimeye was reacting to Tsvangirai’s attempt to seek a court’s help to overturn the polls and his calls for security reforms that were meant to precede the polls.

"I hope our people will never repeat the same mistake and choose an ignoramus when you have bright children who went to university. I wonder what you admire in him," Zimeye quoted Mugabe as saying.

"What sector reform can you a lone stray locust implement? When has the frog aspired to be the crocodile?" Mugabe  said.

Mugabe and Tsvangirai worked together over the last four years in an uneasy coalition government formed after a disputed vote in 2008. The arrangement ended with the Zanu-PF leader’s decisive victory in last month’s elections which were rejected as fraudulent by Tsvangirai.

  • Joseph Shange - 2013-08-26 11:47

I guess Mugabe is right, Tsvangirai was the only one silly enough to take on Zanu-PF , all the highly educated Zimbabweans know they don't stand a chance. Honestly Zim may aswell stay a one party state.

      Vuyo Ntsinde - 2013-08-26 19:14

His ignorance was to believe that SADC would stand for the truth rather than support Mugabe.

      Adrian Bruwer - 2013-09-05 23:05

It would be a different story if the millions of Zimbabweans in South Africa went back to vote.

  • Solomon Almeleh - 2013-08-26 11:49

I would rather have an ignorant but honest politician than a greedy, corrupt one.

  • SunshinyDay - 2013-08-26 11:53

Mugabe is such a loser. He thinks he is showing his power by saying such things, but really he's making himself look like a pathetic old fool. Gosh.

      Ayanda M Masina - 2013-08-26 18:17

Losers are the likes of Morgan but Robert is nowhere bring a loser, that's a fact

      Anthony Spruyt - 2013-08-26 13:20

And why are you in Cape Town if you love this sorry excuse of a human being so much and think he is doing such a great job? You are a blind tool!

  • Annetjie Fogg - 2013-08-26 12:16

What can we say about the "slum millionair" His trivial pursuit answers. SA is full of these "slum millionaires" one sitting in Nkandla, whilst the rest of his nation is living in slum conditions. Parents have died of dreaded disease due to lack of medical, hygienic conditions. The children of the nation are starving, stealing and robbing to take care of their orphaned sibblings at home.

  • Beeg Balaboy - 2013-08-26 12:20

      Joseph Shange - 2013-08-26 12:31

      Mundamurefu Tatora - 2013-08-26 12:32

Unfortunately he is saying something that only educated people can comprehend!

      Beeg Balaboy - 2013-08-26 12:38

      Bruce Mawillis - 2013-08-26 16:12

Mundamurefu grade 0? Our friend needs to be in 'special class' at pre-school level. In shona we have a word for our comprehension hindered friend 'mhepo' , the body of a man is there but like the wind he switches from man to child abruptly.

  • Mundamurefu Tatora - 2013-08-26 12:29

Good description of a lost soul, uneducated and foolish riddled individual.

  • Bruce Mawillis - 2013-08-26 12:32

Ian Khama apologised when he was given evidence of his involvement in the mdc . Payments through the botswana embassy to mdc were all revealed. Mugabe asked for a closed door meeting at the sadc meeting and many secrets were revealed. When the lion of KwaZvimba roars they know what time it is.

      Mundamurefu Tatora - 2013-08-26 13:12

So you think the people of Zimbabwe voted to suffer? 'ignoramus' isn't an exclusive preserve of Tsvangirai, thought you should know!

  • Lemmington Mabaudi - 2013-08-26 13:01

Let me get this right, its ok for the media to ridicule Morgan but not for anyone else?

      Phae Rayden - 2013-08-26 14:52

Throwing childish insults at others is indicative of a loose canon and a bad character, not what anyone expects from a leader with any kind skill. But then again we know he is going to cause people in Africa a lot of embarrassment after he dies and they realize they chose to worship a clown and a destroyer of livelihoods through his old broken mind that continues to fight Ian Smith as if he were still alive... What a waste of a beautiful country and is people.

      Lemmington Mabaudi - 2013-08-26 15:32

Phae Rayden, Please watch the video link I put on my comment. I find it strange that the media makes time to mention his ridicule of Morgan because in that you tube clip you will see how the news reporter made fun of Morgan...tie that in with the ignorant bit then one has to ask if the media are the only ones exempted to ridicule public figures, to be specific Morgan. Last I checked its ok to ridicule Mugabe, just not Morgan???

      Phae Rayden - 2013-08-26 18:09

You fail to grasp the situation. Have you ever heard Morgan ridicule Bob? No? Thats because Bob outlaws it! However he's quite happy to ridicule Morgan, what an @ss. Why are you fighting to compare a Presidents accountability to the same level as a salaried reporter?

      Lemmington Mabaudi - 2013-08-27 12:16

I am shocked that you have never heard Morgan ridicule Mugabe...

  • Samuel Chari - 2013-08-26 13:03

But if you are ignorant of your ignorance then it's a big problem

  • Samuel Chari - 2013-08-26 13:07

If you have been to school you would know the "weak" Zimbabweans are the only people to get independence from "Great" Britain through the barrel of the gun

  • Joe Black - 2013-08-26 13:07

To understand Mugabe's actions you have to read in to his history. Yes Mugabe has some learning, quite a bit actually, but I cannot say that I find his viewpoints enlightened. From a history of Mugabe. "Mugabe's political viewpoint was that "a new 'progressive' society could not be constructed on the foundations of the past [and] that they would have to destroy most of what had been built up after 1900 before a new society, based on subsistence and peasant values could be constructed" So yeah. The only solution he has been able to come up with is to level Zimbabwe with the gravel. And then it can be rebuilt - Something which is unlikely to occur or even start in his lifetime. Good luck Zimbabweans. He's doing what he thinks he is right, but he will never, ever have to live with the consequences. Zimbabwe is nothing but he's little social experiment. One he doesn't even have the time in his life to finish. Enjoy the ride. You are the ride. I always like to say. "Life is for the living."

  • Ware Boer - 2013-08-26 13:18

      Mike Mugadzaa - 2013-08-26 14:12

Typical White Boer mentality is to teach a 7 yr old to shot a 6 year old, do Apartheid and chase Africans from Africa!

      Mike Mugadzaa - 2013-08-26 15:13

At least the British colonialism is much better than the Dutch, French and German-remember Karl Peters of Germany East Africa Company.

      Ware Boer - 2013-08-26 15:31

@mike-No typical white boer mentality was to build south africa into a 1st world country and your brothers destroyed 300years worth of work in 20 years.Face it blacks can't do anything for themselves, they just want handouts and if they don't get their way you call it racism.

      Tadiwa Teddy - 2013-08-26 20:05

@ waar, you racist boer. what has this to do with being black...

  • jimzimbo - 2013-08-26 13:19

Will your bob be held accountable for the wholesale slaughter of his own people in Matabeleland by his North Korean trained 5th Brigade?? The brigades then commander was Colonel Perence Shiri you may recall. He is now Commander of the Zim Air Force.......he's also a cousin of guess who??? Spot on you got it first time.......he's the cousin of uncle bob......ha ha ha ha Tens of thousands of innocent Matabele people were slaughtered by this ruthless brigade of murderers on the orders of your heroic robert mugabe. I wonder how many of you "born frees", in Mashonaland are aware of this historical FACT....perhaps you should spend time with your fellow Zimbabwe "born frees" in Matebeleland. They will have a different take on so called free Zimbabwe and "africa's saviour" uncle bob!

      Bruce Mawillis - 2013-08-26 15:14

Terrorists have never had a place and will never have a place in our country .whether they come from mashonaland, manicaland, midlands , matebeleland or masvingo they will be dealt with by the Zimbabwe security accordingly like they done with distinction in the past.

condoning the massacre of 30 000 men women and children and labeling them as terrorists is a disgrace. Your IP address has been noted and sent to the international court at the Hague. You will be identified and hopefully prosecuted.

      Bruce Mawillis - 2013-08-26 15:39

Mad woman come wipe it off, you are one who is seeing it. They hackf people's heads off and once the started abducting and killing white people at farms and murdering white priests the western world started asking questions but all along they had been on a murder spree killing every shona insight upto masvingo and midlands. Once you aid ,feed, shelter, keep information or support terrorists you are bound to get hurt. Unfortunately in times of warfare innocent lives will be lost.

      Bruce Mawillis - 2013-08-26 15:49

Why the ip adress ? They wont be able to get me through that. Why didnt you just ask for my details . Lady you think you are dealing with your children here?

      Mundamurefu Tatora - 2013-08-26 16:50

Jim you jump the gun here. 1980 Mugabe won the right to rule Zimbabwe. He was humble enough to extend ministerial post to Zipra including to nkomo. Zipra forces wanted an outright rule of Zimbabwe so some revolted as dissent as they had not surrendered they weapons and for the period 1980-1982/3, these zipra forces racked havoc killing and maimming innocent people, white farmers{yes, white farmers} sabortaging infrastructure including an airbase in Gweru. In December of 1981 they even failed an assasination attempt on mugabe, which is when those officals of Zipra including Nkomo, Dabengwa were fired from government or arrested for plotting to overthrow the Government. This led to massive defections of former Zipra forces from the ZNA and they defected with full military assernal. The dissidents were actually getting an upper hand than the PSU{police Support Unit. The 5th Brtigade was not trained for Gukurahundi,Fact. In training it included both ndebele and shona officers. It was only when the matebeleland disturbances escalated that all ndebele officers were trimmed mainly because of suspicion on inside revolt. Thus the deployment of the 5th Brigade as you mention, brutal and dangerous. People died yews,a bad era in Zim politics yes, regrettable yes, but dont ever ever hide under the ndebele Race as this will cheapen your arguements and facts where ever you go. Zimbabwean forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!Zimbabwean History is not confined to your shallow but noisy skull.

It is the mark of a bully to verbally assualt and abuse others - this is a not very subtle form of intimidation that has the effect of persuading bystanders to refrain from criticising the bully, for fear of receiving a similar tongue-lashing. Personal insults are also a convenient diversionary tactic to prevent attention being focused on the important issues.

The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to serve several billion users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW), the infrastructure to support email, and peer-to-peer networks.

Right from his clamoring for sanctions and his obsession with politics of personalities, through his loose zip and equivocal stance on many issues like homosexual rights, down to his acute irresolution and pre- and post-election tantrums, Tsvangirayi's ignorance is common knowledge and need not be reemphasised. The wisdom we await is to see if one not ignorant can be wise enough to pass the baton to others and retire alive.

  • jimzimbo - 2013-08-26 17:12

Mundamurefu, firstly I do not hide, as you put it,from anyone. With respect to your other comments I find it difficult to believe the events as portrayed by yourself. I understand and accept that you fully believe these events and that's your prerogative. If you live in Zim you r perspective on this and other events may be skewed as bob controls the press? In addition Bob himself disbanded this band of murderous thugs due to the bad press both Zimbabwe and he had attracted at the time. When challenged he is also on record as placing the blame on "errant" military commanders, thereby disassociating himself..... I fully agree and support your chant Zimbabwe Forever, the country and its people are truly great however they do not deserve their current status including bob and grace Mugabe, especially the voiceless rural majority!! Imagine if they all had access to a keyboard and the Internet???

      Mundamurefu Tatora - 2013-08-26 20:45

Jim,whatever i posted in reply to your comments stands. How ever, I would like you to know the truth and not 'to believe it'. Am not condoning the violance that ensued, neither did Nkomo nor Mugabe. Simply put thats what happened, unless of course if you want me to give you the SA involvement. Yes ,SA housed the former Rhodesian soldiers, with the help of Botha they came up with what was called Super Zipra/Zapu, a deadly force of destabilisation as an independant Zimbabwe possed more threat to apartheid SA. Actually some atrocities were solely executed by SA, and they would blame Zipra! Jim i would like you not to believe what i have said, but rather know it as the truth. You can invite me on facebook if you so wish so i can share with you more on the history of Zimbabwe and more. I have done so much research in my personal capacity, you are welcome.

      jimzimbo - 2013-08-26 22:27
