Zim airline to resume flights – report

2012-10-23 13:43

Harare - Zimbabwe state radio says the nation's indebted airline plans to resume international flights by 31 October to avert an IATA ban on flying foreign routes.

The radio reported on Tuesday that Air Zimbabwe this month took delivery of two Airbus aircraft to replace its aging Boeings and meet safety standards.

The International Air Transport Association had given the carrier a three-month deadline to comply with safety standards or be barred from international airports and airspace.

State radio quoted airline officials saying "everything is on course" to resume international flights that were grounded earlier this year after a series of pilots' strikes and debts soared to more than $140m.

The radio says China has been linked to a possible bailout plan. An official announcement by the airline is expected soon.

And China will now be rubbing their hands together, because any transaction they get involved with is always sweetly biased in their favour. Africa will belong to China one day, yes and we shall call them the Eastern Blocolonials.

      Buzzbar - 2012-10-23 15:01

Correct. The new term in SA will be "Ja my geel baas"

      art5SA - 2012-10-23 21:05

Strange thing is, China already OWNS the mines... no need for nationalisation there... COSATU are setting up the "PLAYING FIELD" in SA, for the CHINKS to take over there too!!!!

  • sugardick.dupree - 2012-10-23 15:35

Russians want to construct an aircraft building factory in Zimbabwe. I think they are still in talks about the issue with Bob. All these sanctions will benefit Zimbabwe in one way or the other

  • phathuchicos - 2012-10-23 15:38

LOL...watching you guys who were waiting for Zim to explode so that you can go back there and do your business as usual in shame brought by China is enough to give me a great day...If you think China is just gonna watch the west abusing Africans at the same time taking their african resources think again...Zim is coming back to life...thanx to Chinese and South African loans and investments and some EU countries like Switzerland, Netherlands and UK are taking a U-turn now they that they realize the fact that if Zim fully recovers all the the credits will go towards developing countries. To those scaring us about chinese colonising us in-your-face...ha ha ha. Atleast the chinese pay for what they looking for here in Africa(not grabbing it for free okay) and they don't get to stay here permanently just like you guys.

      Buzzbar - 2012-10-23 15:59

Clearly not so gifted, your version of a recovery is that the west only has to feed half the population and that theft of public funds is down to under 60%. Great recovery... Also take a look at whats happening with the Chinese mines in Zambia. Within 3 years the Zambians will kick out the Chinese based on poor labour practises and safety records. Then you have to ask yourself, will the Chinese go quietly or will there be $h1t?

      rob.gunning.1 - 2012-10-23 15:59

      Is your gift stupidity?

      jay.reede - 2012-10-23 16:45

You are missing the point. Before Bob cleaned out all was going well. Now they cant even afford a national airline. Why ? Because they ran a rich well doing country into the ground.

      richard.bosmano - 2012-10-23 17:31

Gift thinks he's clever. Hope that HIV vaccine is a failure for his sake
