Cape Town - Zimbabwean civil servants have resolved to embark on a full-scale strike after the country’s finance minister Tendai Biti last week rebuked them for demonstrating against poor salaries, a report said on Monday.

The civil servants were set to meet in Harare on Monday to map out the modalities, the state owned Herald online said, adding that the strike was due to start at the beginning of the next school term.

Zimbabwean schools close on Thursday and teachers union leaders said they would take advantage of the holidays to start mobilising their members.

"Tomorrow [Monday] is a day for strategising. We are going to mobilise our people such that we open schools geared up for the strike," said one of the union leaders Sifiso Ndlovu.

"We are reviewing the demonstration we undertook last week, especially after being chided by minister Biti. We are not a political party, but people are fighting for bread and butter issues through his ministry and he should not rebuke us the way he did."

The government workers are demanding an all-inclusive salary of $564 for the least paid worker, up from $296.

They also want 15% of the basic salary as a rural allowance for those working in outlying areas.

GAVIN let this be very clear in your mind from today.democracy has never existed before and will never is a word created by awful inslavers to continue explioting natives emancipâting from centuries of expliotation.if democracy exsited before england france portugal all countries with an unforgivable history of distruction. would never have ventured across the sea to distroy others for materialistic reasons.if democracy existed before. where did portugal keep it when they amputated the head of AFRICAN KING MANI CONGO in the 16th century when he refussed the expliotation of noble african people?we africans must scrape from our minds the creminal indo aryan system of goverment can be reference or someting to is a crimogenic system very incompatible to our realities.every people build there system of goverment from thier philosophical base.a collection of classical traditions will provide a solid african constitution for any african territory not country.for we are still withen the artificial boundaries trimmed from the berlin conference by aryan mercantilist.

Eish - well if it's anything like in SA, when the Govt workers go on strike, nobody notices a difference.

teboh the problem is today not 300 yrs ago. zim was the breadbasket of africa and because of stupid policies taking farms back and giving to bob friends has destroyed the country. GIVING A PERSON LAND DOES NOT MAKE THEM A FARMER, and that is why things are in the state they are now.

ZANU will never sort out these problems. It's a waste of time to debate such issues with them.
