Zimbabwe monitors: March polls not on

2012-09-30 16:18

Harare - A Zimbabwean independent monitoring group says it will be impossible to hold free and fair elections in March when President Robert Mugabe wants the polls.

The Zimbabwe Election Support Network said on Sunday the call by Mugabe for full elections in the last week of March doesn't allow enough time to establish conditions for a free vote.

The group said it is "adamant that logistically it is impossible" to meet Mugabe's timetable and complete constitutional and electoral reforms demanded by regional leaders.

It cited disputes in finalizing a new constitution, continuing political intimidation and gross inaccuracies in voters' lists that still name "ghost" electors who have long been dead.

Rushed voting couldn't be held on "a fair playing field" and the outcome would be unacceptable by democratic standards, the group said.

Maongera, what are you doing in South Africa. You should be in Zimbabwe with your hero Mugabe. Oh I know the electricity is only on for 8 hours a day, the water from your taps gives you cholera, the Government hospitals have no doctors or medicine, the Police want bribes at all the numerous road blocks and there are no jobs. The land you believe has been stolen was subsequently stolen by the ZANU PF politicians so who are you going to fight for the land? Go back to Zimbabwe you are too stupid to be of any value in South Africa.

I am sure the ANC government will use Robert as a role model.

Mugabe's idea of a free and fair election is where all the voters are beaten until they vote for him. Apparently he is hard at work putting his thugs and army in position to do the beating.

Tsvangirai was in Bulawayo over the weekend telling his supporters he was ready for new election, end this dysfunctional GNU and form an MDC government. The Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) is briefing journalist that Zimbabwe is not ready for elections. Someone is lying! ZESN said there are a number of democratic reforms including media and security sector reforms still to be carried out as well as practical things like cleaning up the voters roll to be sorted out before Zimbabwe can have free and fair elections. ZESN correctly pointed out that it is impossible to see how all these things can be carried out in time for the 31 March 2013 elections. What ZESN should have said but failed to was that all these things should have been done and dusted a long time ago! The GPA granted Mugabe all his tyrannical powers and then put him in charge of dismantling his own tyrannical regime. Everyone said it was unworkable; everyone that is except Tsvangirai. It was his responsibility to ensure the new constitution was drafted; the reforms were implemented, etc. It is almost certain the nation will have yet another bloody election whose outcome will be another Mugabe and Zanu PF “victory” and another five years of gross mismanagement, corruption, looting and brutal oppression! How PM Tsvangirai can carry on blissfully unaware of the tragic events unfolding in Zimbabwe, and so too are thousands of his supporters, is the greatest mystery of our time!

I suppose that these "free and fair" conditions are for the unpopular puppet cassanova Tsvangirai to win. They know that the people of Zimbabwe support Zanu-PF so they know should a vote be held Mugabe is almost guaranteed victory
